The first recorded instance of a motion picture is the 1888 film “Roundhay Garden Scene” directed by Louis Le Prince. However, the Lumière brothers, Auguste and Louis Lumière, are often credited with the invention of cinema. They held their first public screening of films on December 28, 1895, in Paris, France. Therefore, 1895 is considered the starting point of cinema as we know it today.
